About Legend Jet-drive

Legend Jet-Drive was started in 1992 by three partners formerly with Berkeley Jet.
Our guidelines were and continue to be:

1. Make immediate improvements to the jet drive.
2. Produce the highest quality mixed flow jet.
3. Continue refining and developing our products.
4. Treat customers and suppliers honestly and fairly.

IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENTS

We began with an impeller designed by a former Berkeley hydraulic engineer to develop
more thrust at low and mid-range rpm's without sacrificing top end speed. It worked
beautifully. We then designed our bowl specifically for marine jet use, even including a stuffer
cone for extra efficiency.

Other improvements made in our first pump included: O-ring sealing instead of gaskets;
non-abrasive packing; a seamless wear ring, machined true on all surfaces; greater shifting
leverage; a stronger bearing retainer; and a void reducing hand hole cover.

Our new nozzle design resulted in: elimination of pinched or exposed teflon O-rings; greater
steering angle and maneuverability; and improved reversing, (truly the best in mixed flow).

In addition to design improvements, we started with new tooling, new manufacturing
processes and a new attitude that resulted in "The Finest Jet Made".

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENTS

In roughly chronological order, these are new products Legend has developed since 1993:

An optional "High Rise" intake that raises the pump 1 1/4" to allow clearance with deeper
engine oil pans and sets the pump 1 5/8" further back.

A deep transom adapter for conventional installations with the "High Rise" intake.

A stainless steel impeller made from tougher "precipitation hardening" stainless.

A heavy duty, set-back, weld-in intake for aluminum boats used in severe conditons. (We
refined this intake in 1999 to improve its effectiveness in white water and in heavier boats.)

Nozzle modifications to reduce sand locking of the bucket and wear to the teflon O-ring.

An "E" style insert pump with the cooling water passage cast into the suction piece.

A "set-back" package for our "G" pump. This required new intakes, a unique suction piece
and a separate transom flange that seals to the suction piece. Most Legend pumps now sold
are "set-back". (In 1999 a ride plate option was added.)

A high thrust bearing assembly for severe usage that has been proven in white water racing
in the Northwest and in high speed cruising at Lake Havasu on the Colorado River.

BERKELEY REPLACEMENT PARTS

Repair parts by Legend equal or exceed the original Berkeley standards of quality and
performance. New Legend pumps bolt in as complete replacements.

WHERE USED

In 1994 we began working with Volvo Penta on their PJX jet. Legend built the first (75) PJX
pumps for Volvo in 1995. Most PJX pumps built to date have Legend impellers.

Legend Jets are sold throughout the U.S. and Canada. We have also shipped pumps to
boat builders in Mexico, New Zealand, England, Germany, Sweden and Abu Dhabi. They
have been used with 2,500 horsepower race motors and 105 horsepower diesels. Legend
Jets are used in ski boats, race boats, tour boats, fishing boats, guide boats, family
cruisers
and work boats in both fresh and salt water.
